Playing with traditions, archival material and a sense of creative community, Storösterlens Spelmanslag revitalizes the Swedish phenomenon of a “spelmanslag” – a group of fiddlers protecting tradition.
With full respect for their foremothers and ancestors, they promote an expansive understanding of living traditions. Their context is hyperlocal, deeply anchored in the Scanian heritage, but also stretching beyond given and imagined borders.
Gently lead by Sven Midgren, they explore unexpected soundscapes and grooves, and they love playing for dancers.
