Leanne Barbo
Leanne Barbo is a passionate traditional dancer already for more than 25 years, educated mostly in dance club movement events in Tartu, Tallinn and Riga. Deeper dance education comes from French festival Le Grand Bal d’Europe and others, from these a special mention would definitely be Festiwal Wszystkie Mazurki świata in Warsaw. In all the festivals she has not only participated as a student but also as a workshop leader and dance teacher. This profession Leanne has had for more than 20 years in schools, camps, events and festivals.
Later in Estonia she researched, danced and taught mostly polkas, labajalg (Estonian oberek) and traditions from Pakri (Rågö) and Ruhnu (Runö) island swedes, Ruhnu being the newest for her. The video materials from Jakob Steffensson next to earlier released book „Så dansade vi på Runö“ have been an endlessly interesting source and have helped to better understand the nuances of movement, rhythm and body position of the Ruhnu dancing.
This is why teaching Ruhnu dances for Leanne is very exciting and I do it with great love and interest.
