Polesie_PL
Polesie_PL was created by Agnieszka Szokaluk, Julita Charytoniuk, and Ewa Grochowska – singers with extensive experience in singing songs from Eastern Poland and Ukraine. This allows them to work with pieces that are currently primarily known from solo singing.
Much of the group’s repertoire comes from archival recordings from the 1950s and 1960s, featuring women born in the late 19th century and at the turn of the century, such as Maria Kałużna from Orchówek (born 1894) and Maria Majówka from Bukowa Wielka (born 1914). The group’s repertoire includes wedding, courtship, and love songs, chants, lullabies, and christening songs, as well as unique “swańkas” and “wołodarkas”, performed when winter turns into spring.
