Sound and Stories of Ruhnu Island
Sounds and Stories from Ruhnu Island is an Estonian trio of two fiddles and a storyteller. Their performance features traditional songs and fiddle tunes from Ruhnu, a small Estonian island once home to a Swedish-Estonian community.
After WWII, the entire community fled to Sweden in 1944, leaving the island’s rich musical heritage dormant until Estonia regained independence.
Their group began through research and educational work on this tradition, and they’ve since released their second album, Echoes of the Sea (2025, Album of the Year – Authentic Folk Music Category, Estonian Folk Music Award Gala).
Line-up:
Lee Taul – fiddle, vocals
Karoliina Kreintaal – fiddle, vocals
