Malbrook (Schwerin, Germany)

Ernst Poets – concertina
Wolfgang Meyering – mandola, vocals
Ralf Gehler – diatonic harmonica, bagpipes, jaw harp, vocals

The ensemble performs traditional dance music from northern Germany and sings folk songs in Niederdeutsch dialect. Varied and rich instrumental line-up allows Malbrook to obtain many shades of dance music: from delicate and wispy tunes to wild and dynamic. Their repertoire comes from historical compilations of dance music from 18th and 19th centuries as well as family traditions of the band members. Ecossaises, polonaises, waltzes, polkas, quadrilles and other dances are still attrative and interesting to contemporary dancers as they used to be in old times. Malbrook has been performing their music in many placed across Europe for 15 years in an attempt to break the stereotype of folk songs belonging in a museum and combine the old with the new.

During Pomerania concert they will play pieces in the music tradition of West Pomerania.
