SINGING Norwegian Dance Songs

This workshop will explore the song traditions of the Folldal, Østerdalen, and Trøndelag regions. We will focus on dance singing. We will explore dance melodies that are part of Norwegian vocal traditions. We will learn selected pieces and discuss singing techniques.

Synnøve Brøndbo Plassen – one of the most interesting young singers on the Norwegian folk scene. She is a graduate of the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, where she studied traditional music. She grew up in a family with strong ties to folk music, which shaped her artistic journey. She feels a particular affinity for the musical traditions of the Folldal, Østerdalen and Trøndelag regions. Her repertoire includes children’s songs, psalms, traditional ballads and vocal interpretations of instrumental music.

She is a two-time winner of the prestigious Landskappleiken competition, where in 2024 she also received the Royal Trophy for traditional singing. Her debut album ‘Hjemve’ won the Folkelarm award for solo album of the year, and her latest album ‘Den lyse dag’ earned her a nomination for the Norwegian Grammy.
