VIOLIN West Of Rawa
Led by Róża Martyna Grabowska
For intermediate and advanced players – you need to bring your own instrument and be able to repeat melodies by ear
What are the differences in how people from the same region, separated by dozens of kilometers, play the same music? How can violinists play melodies known primarily from the repertoire of squeezebox players? How does the approach to playing differ depending on when the squeezebox became a permanent part of the band?
We will answer these and other questions during this workshop, focusing on melodies from three musicians – squeezebox players Wiesław Rochala and Stanisław Rosiński, and violinist Jan Makowski.
Róża Martyna Grabowska – singer and violinist. Musically rooted in the Rawa and Łowicz regions, she has been researching their specificity and honing her performance skills for a decade. She studied with, among others, the squeezebox player Czesław Kocemba, and from archival recordings of violinists such as Stanisław Skiba, Jan Makowski, and Kazimierz Meto. She owes her vocal repertoire primarily to family collections, as well as recordings of Waleria Czubak and Marianna Woźniak.
