VIOLIN AND SQUEEZEBOX Melodies from the Duchy of Łowicz
Led by Jan Szymański, Jeremi Kowalski, and Tadeusz Baczyński
For advanced players – you need to bring your own instrument and be able to repeat melodies by ear
During this workshop, Kapela Jana Szymańskiego band will share their knowledge of traditional music from the Duchy of Łowicz. We will learn to play obers, kujons, and polkas under the watchful eye and ear of Jan, the master violinist. Jeremi will show us how to embellish melodies on a three-row accordion, while Tadeusz will teach us to incorporate the characteristic local interpolations and emphases while playing a double-sided drum.
Kapela Jana Szymańskiego from Albinów was formed in 1964. Its current members are Jan Szymański on violin, Tadeusz Baczyński on drum, and Jeremi Kowalski on three-row accordion. The band plays traditional music from the Duchy of Łowicz, as well as more fashionable tangos, waltzes, and foxtrots. They participate in music festivals and competitions across Poland, winning major awards.
