SINGING Lyrical Songs From Rokitne Village (UA)

Rivne Polesia is a region where the singing traditions are still alive, and songs, in their unstylized form, are performed by all generations, both daily and on special occasions. During the workshop, we will learn lyrical songs from the village of Rokitne, the birthplace of the instructor, where she grew up listening to the singing of her mother, father, and the entire family. The workshop will begin with a warm-up, and working on breathing, the vocal apparatus, and articulation.

Ludmila Wostrikowa – ethnomusicologist and vocalist with a unique, velvety voice, and a wonderful, experienced teacher. She has organized and participated in numerous field studies and ethnomusicological expeditions in Polesia. Born in Rokitne, she received extensive knowledge of the traditions of her region from her parents. She holds a university degree in traditional music. Since 1999, she has led the renowned Polish ensemble Horyna.
