INSTRUMENTS Fair
Since its first edition in 2011, the Instruments Fair has grown from a simple „exhibition” to a rich carnival whirlwind, filled with improvisation, narration, music and dancing.
There is a lot going on throughout the whole Saturday, events are taking place simultaneously – so many of them, it is hard to see and experience them all. In this way, the Fair, along with the whole Mazurkas cosmos, becomes the symbol of the richness and potential of the traditional culture, which cannot be learned and limited to a closed set – all you can do is jump into its fast current and commune with its ever-live source.
The 15th Instruments Fair will gather almost 120 exhibitors from Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia, France and those from the USA, Turkey and Bolivia who have been with us for years, presenting traditional, historical, reconstructed and original instruments, as well as auteur creations.
Instruments usually found at the Fair include cimbaloms, bagpipes, hurdy-gurdys, pedal harmonies, shawms, ocarinas, ligawka horns, nyckelharpas, clay bird whistles, kalimbas, viola de gambas, and… harpsichords, spinets, celestas.
And among the 21 special events taking place throughout the day, get ready for:
– in the Dance Hall: dances and workshops of dances from Brittany, Hungary, Slovakia, Latvia and the area around Radom, Rzeszów and Poznań.
– in the Presentation Hall: stories and concerts by makers of harpsichord, portatives, shepherd’s instruments, bagpipes from Belarus, Hungary, Bulgaria and Poland, Indian flutes, innovative electric stringed instruments and, for dessert, a lyrical assembly!
– in the Little Mazurka Hall – events for children including performances, concerts, dances, games and even an instrument-making workshop….
