The Instrument Fair Atelier
The Instrument Fair Atelier is an important point on the map of Mazurkas of the World Festival and two days of intensive preparation for the Instrument Fair at the Fort.
For nine years the Instrument Fair has attracted the most renowned instrument builders from Poland and abroad and on that occasion we invite you to visit the Atelier once again. We know that festival goers are more and more interested in the art of traditional instrument building and even more often need small repairs or consultation with a luthier.
In our never-ending quest for the ideal formula we turn towards old manufactures. There, under the eye of masters, entire generations of builders were educated, faithfully recreating traditional methods of instrument building and sometimes getting a spark of genius allowing them to make discoveries. There a number of people loving this craft worked hand in hand. Sometimes you could come inside, other times priceless mysteries were protected by closed door.
Take this opportunity which doesn’t occur too often to come to the Atelier, walk among instruments being created before your eyes, unknown tools and wood shavings. Ask a million questions or none at all, look, listen and see if it’s an adventure for you.
You will be able to watch the builders working on the following instruments:
Żywiec and medieval bagpipes, double flute (dwojnica), lent fujara, shawms, “suka” fiddles, Płock fiddles , Kalisz and Kurpie basetla, baraban drum, drum, violin, dulcimer, pochette surdynki, vielle à roue, dżez, drum kit, frame drums, wspak and kij.
