SONGS of Podlasie: Penitential Psalms

This workshop offers a rare opportunity to learn older variants of Podlasie ritual songs and Penitential Psalms—religious, introspective songs once performed in rural communities.
The repertoire comes from unpublished 1970s archives, a unique collection donated to the Muzyka Zakorzeniona Foundation by ethnomusicologist Dorota Frasunkiewicz and the Podlasie Institute of Culture.
As part of a scholarship from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Robert Burdalski studied over 40 hours of archival recordings and prepared two thematic digital albums, which participants will explore hands-on during the workshop.
A special highlight is the chance to bring these songs back to life during the interactive memorial concert “Songs of Podlasie: Penitential Psalms”, held the following day — Sunday, 15 November 2025, at 12:00, in the crypts of Bielany Church.
We especially welcome people from, or connected to, the Podlasie region who wish to revive these archival songs within their local communities.
