We’ll learn songs from Lublin Polesie, focusing on traditions recorded in the villages around Włodawa and Sławatycze.

Our repertoire draws directly from the leader’s own fieldwork and historical archives, including the Jan Ignaciuk collection at the Lublin Open-Air Village Museum.

We’ll explore a varied and engaging selection of songs that were popular in the region about a century ago—sung primarily, though not exclusively, in the local Ukrainian dialect.

Jagna Knittel is an ethnologist, journalist, and traditional singer with over 25 years of experience documenting and performing music from Ukraine, Belarus, and Poland. She founded the group Z Lasu; directs community projects and documentary films focused on Polesie’s traditional culture.

She has led singing workshops across Poland since 2017, and has been a key co-creator of the Mazurkas of the World Festival since 2010.
