Reine Steen Trio – Sweden
Reine Steen – a fiddler, who found his way to folk music in the 1970s, closest to the musical tradition of the Skania region (Skania is situated in southern Sweden, by the Baltic Sea). In 1970s and 1980s he conducted research among old fiddlers and singers from this region. He teaches traditional music in a folk school in Österlens, Tomelilla.
Sven Midgren – has been playing the fiddle for the last twenty years, moreover, he studies traditional music at the Music Academy in Malmö. He is interested mainly in Skanian music. He likes to accompany dancers and he wants music to really have rhythm. He will be accompanied by Peter Wickman on double bass.
Pia Qvarnström – dance teacher, fascinated by Swedish national dances since 2004 when she started attending all traditional music festivals, and took all chances to dance. She joined her knowledge of Swedish folk dances with her academic training and became a rhythmics teacher in the Jacques-Dalcroze method. She has been teaching dancing since 2006. She specializes in improvisation rooted in the traditional body language, as a dialogue between the dancer and the musician.
